Modern business from the depth of the ages
Kseniya Malukova has combined talents, she is a businesswoman and a collector of vintage national Ukrainian clothing. For several years she has been managing a formalwear store for men and women that provides premium tuxedos and evening gowns. Her regular clients know that in her welcoming store you can create unique and fashionable looks which will make you a star of any party.
Her love of vintage apparel once made her decide to start collecting vintage Ukrainian clothing that survived the time and came to our modern world from the depth of centuries - Shirts (sorochkas), vests (korsetkas), head towels (namitkas), fur coats (shupans) and jewleries.
Thus, business was united with a passion of art.
“It hasn’t been long since I started living in the world of Ukrainian costume” explains Kseniya. “I had to learn a lot about the designs of costume making from different regions. Each Ukrainian region had its own ‘fashionable’ art features, tailoring approach, embroidery patterns, color combinations and many other interesting differences that made each region unique. It was quite a lot of work, but I wouldn’t say it stopped me - on the contrary, it gave me drive, development and a strong will to move forward.”
Kseniya further explains, “all costumes are different and yet distinctively beautiful! These unique elements of creating, stitching and embroidering are inherent in the DNA of Ukrainian women. This makes Ukrainian women distinct from all other ethnicities.”
“Later I called this project ‘Nation’. There were many people involved in this project. After meeting with a talented photographer, Tanyana Gurkovska, this project became a story about the beauty of Ukrainian women. Tatyana came up the idea of inviting actresses from different Ukrainian theatres. They portrayed the life of Ukrainian women from different corners of Ukraine.”
“I would like to end my story with a quote from Ralph Lauren, who once said”: “Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. It’s about something else that comes from within you.”
